The Buffalo Bills made a major move on Wednesday, agreeing to trade star wide receiver Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans in exchange for a 2025 second-round pick (via Minnesota). The Texans will also receive a 2024 sixth-round pick and a 2025 fifth-round pick as part of the deal.
The decision to trade Diggs comes after a noticeable drop in production following a coaching change last season. With offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey being replaced by Joe Brady, Diggs saw a decrease in targets and average receiving yards per game, only recording one touchdown for the rest of the regular season.
The separation between Diggs and the Bills seemed inevitable, especially after his response to a fan’s question about his importance to quarterback Josh Allen’s success. Additionally, Diggs’ brother, Trevon Diggs, a cornerback for the Dallas Cowboys, had been publicly calling for Stefon to leave Buffalo.
For the Texans, the acquisition of Diggs adds to an already busy offseason, which has seen them bring in several key players including defensive end Danielle Hunter, cornerback Jeff Okudah, and running back Joe Mixon. Last season, the Texans improved their record by seven wins under first-year head coach DeMeco Ryans, and now they look to continue building on that success with the addition of Diggs.
Meanwhile, the Bills are undergoing significant changes this offseason, with Diggs joining a list of players who have moved on. With a revamped roster, including new additions like wide receiver Curtis Samuel and tight end Dalton Schultz, the Bills are looking to shake things up after four straight AFC East division titles and multiple postseason losses to the Kansas City Chiefs.
