Thierry Delaporte Steps Down as Wipro CEO, Srinivas Pallia to Take Over
In a surprising turn of events, Thierry Delaporte has resigned as CEO of Wipro, one of India’s top IT services companies. Delaporte, who has been at the helm for the past five years, will be succeeded by Srinivas Pallia, a veteran of the company with 32 years of experience.
The decision comes after a tumultuous period for Wipro, marked by changes in its operating model, high-profile departures, and failed acquisitions. The company is expected to report a drop in revenue for the most recent fiscal year, making it the only one of India’s top four IT firms to do so.
Industry experts have expressed mixed reactions to Delaporte’s departure. Phil Fersht, founder of HFS Research, believes that Delaporte was not leading Wipro in the right direction and that his exit was not unexpected. Fersht also noted that morale at Wipro was at an all-time low under Delaporte’s leadership.
Srinivas Pallia, who currently heads Wipro’s Americas 1 market, will take over as CEO and managing director from April 7. Delaporte will remain with the company until May 31 to ensure a smooth transition.
Wipro’s rivals have also seen changes at the top, with Tata Consultancy Services and Tech Mahindra appointing new CEOs in recent months. Mindtree is also reportedly looking for a new CEO as Debashis Chatterjee’s term is set to end next year.
Overall, Delaporte’s resignation marks a significant shift for Wipro, and all eyes will be on Pallia as he takes the reins of the company in the coming months.
