Michele Wise Wright: A Lifetime of Advocacy for Health Equity
Michele Wise Wright, a native of Tuskegee, Alabama, has dedicated her life to breaking down barriers and promoting health equity among Black and other minority communities. Born in the same hospital where the infamous Tuskegee Syphilis Study was conducted, Wise Wright’s personal history has fueled her passion for ensuring equal access to healthcare for all.
With a background in engineering and public policy, Wise Wright has worn many hats in her career, from entrepreneur to writer to director. Her interdisciplinary approach to health equity has led her to develop innovative solutions, such as a screening tool for cystic fibrosis in people of color and the establishment of nonprofit organizations focused on rare diseases.
Wise Wright’s advocacy work has not gone unnoticed. She has received numerous awards and accolades, including being named the 2022 USA Today Woman of the Year for Arkansas and a 2023 AARP Purpose Prize Fellow. Her dedication to improving healthcare access for underrepresented communities has earned her recognition on a national level.
