Senator John Fetterman and his wife, Gisele Fetterman, provided a video update on their status following a car accident near the PA-MD border on Sunday. According to a Maryland State Police report obtained by USA TODAY, Fetterman was found to be speeding and “at fault” for the accident.
The report stated that Fetterman was driving a Chevrolet Traverse at a high rate of speed, well over the posted speed limit of 70 miles per hour, when he rear-ended a Chevrolet Impala on I-70 in northwest Maryland. Both vehicles were towed from the scene, and Fetterman, his wife, and the other driver, a 62-year-old woman from Pennsylvania, were taken to War Memorial Hospital in West Virginia for treatment.
Fetterman was treated for a bruised shoulder and the couple was discharged later that day. In a video posted to social media, Fetterman thanked supporters for their well wishes and expressed gratitude for being back home with their family in Braddock.
Fetterman, who has been the junior senator from Pennsylvania since 2023, previously served as Pennsylvania’s lieutenant governor and as the mayor of Braddock. An investigation into the accident is ongoing, and no citations have been issued at this time.
USA TODAY attempted to contact the witness and the other driver involved in the accident but was unable to reach them. The names of those individuals were included in the public police record but have not been published to protect their privacy.
