The Motion Picture Editors Guild, the second-largest West Coast Local of Hollywood’s major crew union, has reached a tentative agreement on its craft-specific issues with studios and streamers. The agreement was confirmed on Instagram by the Local 700 on Sunday, following five days of negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers.
Details of the agreement, which covers the guild’s more than 9,000 active members, have not been immediately available. However, previous IATSE Locals have communicated to members that they will share more about the terms of the deals when memorandums of agreement are drawn up.
The Motion Picture Editors Guild is the eighth IATSE West Coast Local to strike a craft-specific provisional agreement with the AMPTP in 2024. Other unions that have reached deals include the International Cinematographers Guild, the Art Directors Guild, and the production sound crew union, among others.
Next up for negotiations are IATSE Locals 44, 705, and 884, which are scheduled to begin bargaining in mid-April. The general negotiations covering IATSE’s 13 West Coast Locals, focusing on issues such as wages, working conditions, and AI, are set to resume at the end of April.
The agreement marks a significant step forward for the Motion Picture Editors Guild and its members, ensuring fair working conditions and benefits for those in the industry.
