Wipro Ltd’s engineering research and development (ER&D) division is set to experience significant growth in the ongoing financial year, with estimates suggesting a potential increase of up to 30%. This growth projection comes as a positive development for the company, which has been trailing behind its competitors in terms of overall growth.
The ER&D unit, known as Wipro Engineering Edge, is expected to secure nearly $300 million in additional business in FY25. This division contributed approximately $1 billion, or 10% of Wipro’s total revenue in FY24, with a growth rate of around 9%. The growth in revenue for the ER&D division is anticipated to be primarily driven by sectors such as hardware, semiconductors, Industry 4.0, wireless networks, and cabling.
Despite facing a 4% decline in annual revenue in FY24, Wipro’s ER&D division has shown promising growth potential, particularly in the Americas region. With a focus on digital technologies and innovation, the ER&D unit is poised to capitalize on emerging opportunities in the market.
Wipro Engineering Edge, led by Harmeet Chauhan, has over 25,000 employees and plays a crucial role in Wipro’s global business strategy. As the company continues to expand its offerings in cloud, AI, and consulting services, the growth of the ER&D division remains a key priority.
The surge in ER&D revenue is reflective of a broader trend within the Indian IT industry, where companies are increasingly investing in new technologies and digital solutions. With a focus on driving innovation and efficiency across various sectors, the ER&D segment is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of India’s IT landscape.
