Louisville Bats Catcher Michael Trautwein is using his platform to spread awareness about mental health during Mental Health Awareness Month. In an interview with WAVE Sports Anchor Dusty Baker, Trautwein opened up about his personal connection to mental health struggles and the tragic loss of his brother, Will.
Trautwein shared that his family’s experience with mental health issues, particularly after his brother’s passing, inspired them to start the Will to Live foundation. The foundation aims to help others struggling with mental health, suicide, depression, and anxiety, especially in teens. Trautwein emphasized the importance of talking about mental health and spreading awareness to prevent similar tragedies.
Reflecting on his brother’s impact on his life, Trautwein described Will as his hero and the reason he became a catcher in baseball. He shared their special saying, “Love Ya Man,” as a reminder to express love and appreciation to others every day.
Despite the challenges he has faced, Trautwein remains focused on honoring his brother’s memory and spreading positivity on and off the field. He emphasized the importance of being a good teammate, having fun, and enjoying the game, rather than focusing solely on performance.
Through his advocacy and openness about his own struggles, Trautwein hopes to inspire others to prioritize their mental health and seek help when needed. His dedication to raising awareness and promoting mental wellness serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of addressing mental health issues in sports and beyond.
