The Sacramento River Cats’ home field, Sutter Health Park, is gearing up for some major upgrades as it prepares to host the Oakland Athletics for the next few seasons. MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred recently outlined the improvements that will be made to bring the Triple-A ballpark up to big league standards.
One of the key upgrades includes the construction of a separate building adjacent to the stadium that will serve as the home clubhouse for the A’s. The visiting clubhouse will also undergo renovations, and new artificial turf will be installed on the field. In addition, the camera capability will be upgraded to ensure high-quality broadcasts from Sacramento.
The renovations will also include revenue-associated upgrades such as new club seating and video boards within the stadium. Despite the extensive work needed to meet MLB standards, Manfred expressed confidence in the progress being made, noting the strong fan interest with over 13,000 seat deposits already secured.
The A’s temporary move to Sutter Health Park was announced in partnership with Sacramento Kings owner Vivek Ranadive, with plans to play there from 2025 through at least 2027. The agreement includes an option for a fourth year in case the A’s proposed Las Vegas ballpark isn’t ready by the 2028 MLB season.
While there is excitement about MLB games coming to Sacramento, the MLB Players Association will need to sign off on the upgrades before the A’s can officially call Sutter Health Park their home. With plenty of work still to be done, the race is on to get the ballpark ready for the big leagues.
