The Altoona Curve faced off against the Portland Sea Dogs in a thrilling game that showcased the unpredictable nature of baseball. The game started as a pitcher’s duel, with both teams locked in a tight battle for the first seven innings. However, everything changed in the bottom of the eighth inning when the Curve exploded for six runs, including back-to-back home runs, electrifying the crowd of 5,164 fans at Peoples Natural Gas Field.
Just when it seemed like the Curve had secured the win, the Sea Dogs staged a comeback in the top of the ninth inning, tying the game at 6-6. The game went into extra innings, and it was Tyler Miller of the Sea Dogs who delivered the game-winning run in the 10th inning, securing an 8-6 victory for Portland.
Despite the loss, Curve catching coordinator Taylor Davis praised both teams for their performance, highlighting the impressive pitching and offensive displays throughout the game. Curve starting pitcher Braxton Ashcraft put on a stellar performance, going six innings with seven strikeouts and only giving up one run.
The game also featured some redemption stories, with Sea Dogs pitcher Hunter Dobbins bouncing back from a tough outing to silence the Curve bats for seven innings. Additionally, the Curve played under the alternate identity of the Malmo Oat Milkers for the game, as part of a sponsorship by Oatly.
