Millions now have the ability to see the northern lights firsthand as smartphone cameras capture what the naked eye cannot. A recent solar storm brought the aurora borealis to British Columbia, giving people the opportunity to witness this natural phenomenon in all its glory.

One such individual, a journalist named Jenna Hauck, ventured to Old Orchard Road in Chilliwack on a Friday night armed with her camera and tripod. As she looked up at the sky, she saw faint whiteish lines that gradually transformed into vibrant lime-green lights and magenta swirls through the lens of her camera.

The difference between what she saw with her naked eye and what her camera captured was astounding. The camera was able to pick up on the vibrant colors and movements of the auroras that were not visible to her in real-time.

Hauck reflected on her past experience in Alaska, where she had hoped to see the northern lights but was left disappointed. She realized that advancements in technology, particularly smartphone cameras, have now made it possible for millions of people to witness the beauty of the northern lights firsthand.

The images captured that night in Chilliwack were truly breathtaking, showcasing the stunning display of colors in the night sky. People in the area were able to share in this experience thanks to the power of technology.

As Hauck looked back on the night’s events, she considered herself lucky to have witnessed such a spectacular sight and to have been able to document it for others to see. The ability to capture the northern lights with a smartphone camera has opened up a whole new world of possibilities for those who may have never had the chance to see them otherwise.
